Customer question: "Do I need to keep some ash / debris on the floor of the stove to protect the fire bricks from cracking?"
No need to protect the floor with ash. This is not a fragile stove.
More ash in the stove means less wood can fit, and less burn duration.
Even when
fire bricks crack in flash combustion stoves, the stove will still operate normally.
